Welcome to another edition of our monthly Backstage Report, the format where we interview a colleague about his or her work. Today, we’re excited to have Marc with us, a key player in our digital events team. We sat down with him to dive into his background, his journey at LiveWall, and the fascinating world of digital event engagement.
Thanks for joining us today Marc! Could you start by telling us a little bit about yourself?
Sure! I moved to Tilburg in 2008 to study Communication IEMES, which focuses on events, music and entertainment. After graduating, I jumped straight into the events industry, working in various roles from theater production to outdoor event planning. I've always been passionate about enhancing events digitally, so joining LiveWall six and a half years ago was a perfect fit. Here, I lead a team dedicated to making events more efficient, fun, and digitally organized.

That sounds great! Can you elaborate on what you mean by the digital aspect of events?
Absolutely. Our team approaches events from multiple fronts. We are structured around three main pillars: sports, legal, and entertainment. We use digital tools to improve efficiency and engagement in all these areas. For example, in legal events, we digitize decision-making processes for faster and more transparent outcomes. In entertainment, we enhance the audience experience and gather data more efficiently through interactive tools like digital bingo cards and quizzes.
Speaking of entertainment, could you share some specific examples of how you’ve integrated digital tools into events?
Definitely! Last year, we worked with Holland Casino on a digital bingo event. Traditionally, collecting leads was cumbersome, so we created a digital bingo card system where participants registered online. This not only made the process smoother but also ensured we collected email addresses efficiently. Similarly, for sports events, we provide interactive tools like quizzes and games to engage large crowds, whether at a football stadium or a motorsport circuit.
What kind of experiences do you offer around these sports events?
We cater to a wide range of sports events, from football matches to motorsport. For instance, during Formula 1 races, we engage fans with interactive content like quizzes, polls, and our innovative selfie-fancam. This tool allows fans to see themselves on the big screen, creating memorable moments and increasing engagement.
That sounds exciting! Do you also handle brandend digital activations at these events?
Yes, we do. We often collaborate with brands for field marketing activations that require a digital component. For example, we’ve created an augmented reality installation at Schiphol Airport and interactive quizzes and karaoke setups for Coca-Cola at the Ziggo Dome, both in Amsterdam. These activations not only entertain but also help brands collect valuable data and interact with their audience in a fun way.
Can you tell us about a particularly memorable project you’ve worked on?
Two projects stand out. First, our work in the political sector, especially during the past tumultuous year in the Dutch political landscape. We facilitated legal-voting and decision-making for several political parties. Second, our involvement with major sports events like Formula 1, MotoGP, and the European Championship of Football. Developing the selfie-fancam for these events was particularly rewarding as it significantly enhanced fan engagement.
Do you have a dream client or event you’d love to work with in the future?
I’d love to be involved in a major event in the US, like the Indy 500 or the Super Bowl. Working on such a large scale would be an incredible achievement for our team.

Before we wrap up, is there anything else you’d like to share?
Yes, we’re now focusing on enhancing the entire event experience, not just the event itself. This means engaging the audience even before the event starts through gamification and other interactive tools. By creating a connected experience, we aim to enrich both the audience's experience and the data we collect for our clients.
Thanks for sharing, Marc. It’s been great talking to you!
